Balázs Mészáros received the Employee of the Year 2024 award

Balázs Mészáros – Construction Manager, Laterex Construction Ltd.

“In 2024, the “Employee of the Year” Award goes to Balázs Mészáros!” – That is how the winner was announced by András Gerencsér, president of LATEREX Construction Ltd, at the annual company Christmas celebration. The award and the journey of Balázs are discussed in an article by Andi Berregi.

“Employee of the Year” Award

This award is presented annually in December to the colleague who not only did deliver an exceptional performance that year, but the years leading up to it as well. The tradition has been established ten years ago at the company group. The nominations for the award are made by the management of the company, who also decide who is the most deserving to the title. The award serves not only as a recognition for the recipient but also as an incentive for the performance of the other employees.  

He's come a long way…

Balázs was born and raised in Eger in a big family with two siblings, both of whom work in the construction industry. Regarding his career choice, his older brother had such a great influence on him, that eventually he ultimately chose engineering, specifically he became a Management Engineer. Even though he was unsure for a long time about what he wanted to pursue, thanks to his exceptional memory he found it sufficient to “just pay attention” at school, so he did not need to study much at home, and the good grades came almost effortlessly. Life before LATEREX

He began his career in Eger, at Markoth Ferenc County Hospital, as an Engineering Manager, where his task was the operation of the hospital and the associated healthcare facilities. During the hospital’s renovation, he provided technical support to the contracting companies, including LATEREX. Since he got along well with the colleagues working on that project, he developed a favorable impression of the company. Although he was promoted head of department at the end of the project, he wanted a change and decided to apply to be a part of our team.

Career path at LATEREX Construction Ltd. (Why is it great to work at our company?)

Balázs joined the company in February 2017. He started his career as an in-house engineer in the Production Directorate I, under the leadership of Production Directorate Nándor Misányi. Over time, he has worked in all directorates, which gave him the opportunity to meet and collaborate with many colleagues throughout the years. His positive opinion of the ‘Laterex’ colleagues has not changed, even now as an employee. At the beginning of his career, he also received a lot of support from the leaders. “Both professionally and personally, I have been fortunate to work with great colleagues so far,” he said in an interview for the company magazine.

Professional successes

The award-winning Ráday House: If he had to choose a favorite project, this might be the one. Even though he could hardly see the light at the end of the tunnel, the hard work was ultimately rewarded with a Construction Industry Award.

The biggest challenge, however, was the House of Hungary in Brussels, where the entire team had to face several difficulties. They had to overcome numerous issues related to foreign regulations, organization, and limited construction access in a different country.

Goals for improvement

Reading the interview, Balázs comes across as a truly central figure. He speaks and thinks in terms of “we”. Still, he believes this is an area where he wants to improve – making communication and relationships with his colleagues even more efficient and seamless.

Future plans within and beyond LATEREX

Since 2017, he had the opportunity to participate in many beautiful projects, but just as great actors have a dream role, in the construction world there are dream projects. For Balázs, that would be a stadium or a sports hall. While he always focuses on the next project at work, in his personal life, he would like to settle down and start a family.
